Another Door, Another Opportunity
An exciting new venture is taking shape just 500 metres from our base at Curran Clinic.
As already intimated in our prayer letter it is a Girls Christian Academy, and when completed will provide greatly needed facilities for the girl children of our area.
There are three kinds of school in Kenya
- A government school.
- A private school, built and financed by the sponsors, in all its operations.
- A school built by a mission or well wishers, but financed by the Government in all its operations.
Upon exploring the third option the following emerged.
The sponsors or mission in return for building the school, have the following privileges granted them.- Choosing the head teacher
- 5 representatives on the Board of Governors, out of a total of 12
- have Mission Policy and Bible teaching carried on throughout the school life in regard to practice, decisions and spiritual oversight.
Bearing in mind that in any place of learning education is the first priority we felt that to have the sole spiritual input into such a potentially fruitful field was all that we could desire and to obtain this at the mere cost of providing a needy community with a school building was an opportunity we could not miss.
This venture means that through every four year period we have the privilege of instructing and guiding in the Gospel hundreds of Girl children in the most formative and vulnerable stage of their lives.
This is no light thing and I saw the value of this opportunity from the very outset.
Having passed my findings on to our Directors at home they were enthusiastic, and as the venture coincided with a field tour, they were enabled to meet the community themselves and gauge the interest in relation to this worthy cause.
The decision having been made, the remainder lies before us.
Using local labour, and in the main, local materials we hope to do phase one, two classrooms, a dormitory, administration block, toilet and kitchen for 12 to 15 thousand pounds.
